Bolgatanga, the capital of the Upper East Region will host the 2016 International Credit Union (ICU) on October 22.
The International Credit Union day has been celebrated annually on the third Thursday of October since 1948. The day is recognized to reflect on the history of credit union movement and to promote its achievements.
The ultimate goal is to raise awareness about the activities of credit unions around the world and give members the opportunity to get more involved.
This year’s celebration is on the theme; ‘The authentic difference’ with the global celebration slated for October 20.
However, the day will be celebrated in Ghana on October 22 to be hosted by Bolgatanga.
The Upper East Regional Director Department of Cooperatives, Andrew Alegewe in an interview with Tanga Radio, a Bolgatanga-based radio station, at the annual General meeting of the Bolgatanga Teachers Cooperative Credit Union said the is significant because it brings together members of all cooperatives together to deliberate on issues affecting them.
