The Upper East Regional Minister, Ambassador Paulina Patience Abayage, on Tuesday assured that she will invite the Minister of Tourism, Catherine Abelema Afeku to visit the Tongo Hills in order for her to appreciate its potentials and develop it to international standards.

Abayage announced this during her courtesy call on the Tongo-Rana, Kugbilsong Nandebteng and his Sub-chiefs as part of her quest to foster a good working relationship with the traditional leaders and their subjects, as well as solicit their support to enable her manage the affairs of the region.
Addressing the Regional Minister and her entourage at his palace, the Tongo-Rana expressed dissatisfaction about the low patronage of the Tongo Hills by tourists despite its huge tourism potentials.
The Tongo Hills, located in the village of Tongo- Tengzug in the Talensi district of the Upper East Region, 17 kilometers (about 10 miles) southeast of Bolgatanga is known for the mysterious Whistling Rocks. These rocks make a strange whistling sound during November and December; when the harmattan wind blows from the Sahara throughout the Northern Region.
Responding to the chief’s concern, Ambassador Abayage said she will have the Tourism Minister visit the famous Tongo Hills in order for her to have a better appreciation of its tourism potentials and to commit some resources to its development.
The workaholic Regional minister further reiterated her commitment to ensure that the Upper East Region is put on the world map for all the good reasons.
