The chief of Pelungu in the Nabdam District of the Upper east Region, Naab Sierig Soore Sobil IV has pledged his commitment to work towards ending open defecation in his community starting from June this year.
He announced this last weekend when he led the residents of Pelungu to embark on a massive cleanup exercise in the community.
As part of measures to maintain a healthy society, Naab Sobil IV admonished his people to prioritize sanitation as it is a sure way of eliminating some preventable diseases.
According to Naab Sobil IV, some ailaments among the people of Pelungu and the public can be attributed to poor sanitation practices. It is against this backdrop that he advised the community members to ensure environmental and personal cleanliness.
On her part, the District Chief Executive for Nabdam, Agnes Anamoo, who participated in the cleanup exercise, commended the chief for complementing government’s efforts in ensuring good sanitation in the country.
She further pledged her readiness to assist chiefs in passing by-laws that will sanction individuals caught practicing poor sanitation.
