Three teenagers lost their lives on the Volta Lake Sunday when the canoe on which they were travelling capsized. The three, all females, drowned on the lake while returning from Daboya in the Northern Region, where they had attended the campaign launch of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The victims; Samia Yusuf, 19, Mavis Kofi, 19 and Fawdatu Abass, 18 were all Junior High School pupils.
Information available to Top News Ghana reveals the teenagers boarded the canoe with three other women. While on transit, some of the passengers reportedly complained to the canoe operator about the manner in which he was padding the canoe as he was reportedly making and receiving calls.
Moments after their complaints, the operator lost control and the canoe capsized leading to the drowning of the three teenagers.
The elderly women and the operator were however rescued by a good Samaritan who chanced on the scene.
