Suspected criminals in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region have met their untimely deaths in recent times following residents’ increased anger over the stealing of motorcycles, animals and sometimes over burglary.
The latest of such anger is the lynching of a young man believed to be in his early 20s whose name was only given as Atarya. He hailed from Vea in the Bongo District but lives in Soe in the Bolgatanga Municipality.
The suspect was lynched in the early hours of Wednesday January 18, 2017 at Gabisi, a suburb of Bolgatanga after he was given a hot chase and apprehended by some residents for allegedly stealing donkeys.
The stealing of donkeys has become rampant in recent times leaving residents reeling in anger over the development.
Wednesday’s killing appeared to be the first case in 2017.
Family members of the deceased broke into tears upon seeing the lifeless body of their relation who had parts of his body including the head burnt. Some swallowed the bitter pill as they say all attempts to change the young man’s behavior proved futile.
