Beleaguered Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP, Baatima Samba says he will not resign from his position following calls by the Youth in the area that he and other two executives cannot continue to occupy their positions because they now belong to two of the Regions.
He explained that, his position as Regional party chairman is backed by the party’s Constitution and therefore it will require a Constitutional amendment to remove him from office before his tenure ends.
The Chairman and three other Regional executives have been asked by a youth group within the NPP calling itself the Northern Youth for Development to resign.
At a news conference in Tamale Monday, the youth said the party Chairman, the Regional Secretary and his Deputy as well as the regional communications director now fall within the newly created Savannah and North East Regions and therefore cannot continue to occupy their positions as party executives in the Northern Region.
Spokesperson for the group, Anyass Gazali insisted that, the continuous stay in office of the three, will affect the fortunes of the NPP in the Northern Region.
