The Vice-presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on the people of northern descent to vote hugely against President John Mahama whose government he says is a disgrace to northerners.

Addressing NPP supporters at Bongo in the Upper East as part of his four-day campaign tour of the region, Dr. Bawumia said honesty was the guiding principle of northerners but today, Ghanaians are viewing northerners differently because of what he describes as the most corrupt government in the history of Ghana under the watch of President Mahama who is also a northerner.

Dr. Bawumia quizzed his northern brother; “Why does your government steal from northerners if you care about northerners? And why do you want us to give you another opportunity to steal more from the very northerners you say you are trying to protect? Let’s face it; John Mahama’s government is a disgrace to northerners. Northerners were always a proud people, we value our integrity, we don’t have money but we have pride. We are seen as honest people. This is the way our fathers worked. Honesty was the guiding principle of the northern elite of those days and the northerners as a whole.”

According to him, it is time to restore the pride of northerners and therefore, the way to get it done “is to get rid of this John Mahama corrupt government. That is the way we are going to restore that pride,” he stressed.
