The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of five more suspects in connection with the lynching of Major Maxwell Adam Mahama at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region.
The five are among the twelve persons the police declared wanted in connection with the killing of the young soldier on Monday May 29, 2017.
The arrested suspects are Bernard Asamoah, Bismark Asamoah, Sarah Mensah, John Boakye, and Kwame Awona.
It will be recalled that some residents of Denkyira-Obuasi who committed the crime later claimed they mistook Major Mahama for an armed robber after a snail seller spotted a side arm on him when he he wanted to pick money from his pocket and pay for the snails he had bought from her while jogging. The woman called the assemblyman for the area on phone and reported that she had seen an armed robber with a pistol on him.
The assembly, William Baah, now also in the grips of the police, mobilized some residents, rushed to the scene and without bordering to hear from the innocent soldier, chased him, shot him, stoned him and eventually clubbed him to death.
In all, about forty suspects are now standing trial over the killing of the soldier.
