One person was Monday evening shot dead at Walewale in the West Mamprusi District of the Northern Region when three gunmen suspected to be armed robbers opened fire at the Walewale market.
DSP Bempah Sarpong, Police commander of the area who confirmed this to TopNews Ghana Tuesday morning said the deceased, Abdul Amadu, aged 40, had gone to transact business at a mobile money vendor’s shop when the incident happened.
According to him, the three armed men who were on one motorbike fired indiscriminately towards the vendor’s shop where the deceased and was transacting business.
Sensing danger, the vendor ran into the market but the deceased was hit by a bullet leading to his death.
The incident which occurred at about 7:30pm Monday caused chaos in the township of Walewale as residents ran for their lives.
Though no arrest has been made, DSP Bempah says the police have begun investigations into the matter.
