Bongo: Chiefs and People Celebrate Azambene Festival

The paramount chief of the Bongo Traditional Area, Naba Lemyarum Baba Salifu, has expressed serious concerns about the topmost position occupied by the Bongo District in the country in teenage pregnancy.
The district is also hit by high migration of children especially girls to urban areas due to the very little economic activities in the area which have triggered the rising cases of teenage pregnancy.

The Paramount ruler in his address at the 10th annual fire festival known as “Azambene”, celebrated under the theme; “Information communication technology; a key to rapid development”, said teenage pregnancy, drug abuse and other social vices are high in the district.

He therefore announced plans to use funds from this year’s celebration of the festival to start a community radio station which would embark on massive education against these vices.

Accounting to his subjects, Naba Lemyarum announced that the Educational Endowment Fund realized from previous celebrations has used ten thousand Ghana cedis to support eighteen needy students in tertiary institutions.

The Upper East Regional Minister, Albert Abongo, while announcing government’s commitment to development, also called on motorists not make the Bongo road which is under construction a source of grieve upon its completion.
