Stephen Appiah

Black Stars technical coordinator Stephen Appiah has accepted his new role with the national team comes along with pressure like every other job.

The former skipper of the senior national team was named a member of the technical team of the Black Stars by returning head coach James Kwesi Appiah.

Ahead of the Black Stars Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2019 qualifier against Ethiopia this weekend, Stephen Appiah admitted the technical team were under pressure in their handling of the lads but expected experience to see them through.

“There is pressure on everybody but I don’t think it is something we can’t handle. The most important thing is our relationship with the players. Some of us [the technical team members] have played with some of the players at the national team,” he told the media upon arrival in Kumasi.

“For the past few days, they have accorded us maximum respect and we will instil in them our experience and knowledge in the game for the success of the nation.”

The Black Stars arrived in Kumasi on Monday as coach Kwesi Appiah continues to fine tune his team before the first AFCON 2019 qualifier at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
