16 “galamseyers” suffocate in Shaanxi mine blast

Some eleven small-scale miners (galamseyers) have died through suffocation while mining in some pits, following the detonation of explosives around the Shaanxi mine at Gbane in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region.

The incident reportedly happened Wednesday dawn after Shaanxi detonated the explosives to mine ore.

In their attempt to steal some of the ore, however, the illegal miners got suffocated in the pits.

Some of the miners died instantly after inhaling deadly fumes from the blast.

About 30 of them are receiving treatment at various hospitals.
